Anka (Anne) N. Bogdanovich passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 1st. A beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, she was born on June 20th, 1920 in Selca, Brac Croatia to parents Jakov (Jack) and Marica Ursich. Seeking a better life in the United States with his brothers who sponsored him, Jack left Croatia shortly after Anka’s birth and after obtaining US citizenship in 1929, Anka and Marica were able to reunite with him in San Pedro; Brother, Anthony, and sister ,Thelma ,were added to the family soon after. In 1939 she graduated from San Pedro High School and married Nick L. Bogdanovich, nephew of Martin J Bogdanovich, founder of Star-Kist Foods. They had two children, Jack ,and Mary Ann who passed away in 2001. They remained happily married for 65 years until Nick’s death in 2005. Anne was the definition of a successful homemaker and supportive corporate wife. She accompanied Nick on several of his Star-Kist assignments including New Bedford, Massachussets, Samoa and several years in Chimbote, Peru. A talented seamstress, cook, baker and savvy manager of the family’s finances and investments, Anne was considered the head of the extended family and everyone sought her advice, guidance or approval. She was a past president of the Dalmatian-American Club’s Women’s Auxiliary. Later years included time with family, traveling and relaxing at a second home in Palm Springs. Extremely generous, Anne was always willing to quietly assist family members with financial support for education or other major expenses. She was also a benefactor for numerous charitable causes involving education or health care. She will be greatly missed by many people and the memories of those of us who recall Christmas Eve Celebrations at Nick and Anne’s beautiful San Pedro home will never be forgotten or duplicated. She is survived by her son Jack (Millie), granddaughters Holly Bogdanovich and Keri (Jason) Wandrey, sister,Thelma Felando, nephew Phillip (Mary) Felando, niece Suzan (Jacqui) Felando, nieces, Amy Felando and Nancy (Taylor) Fulkerson, nephew John Ursich (Mayra), sister-in-law, Ernestine Ursich and several cousins.
