Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Aunt, passed away on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. Rosa Sansone was born on March 16, 1918 in Mola di Bari, Italy. She was the third youngest of ten siblings. Rosa met her future husband, Stefano Tanzi, when World War II began. She waited for him to return from his duty in the Italian Navy, and they married in 1944. A year later, her daughter Mary was born. In 1955, they immigrated to the United States and lived in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a seamstress for Kuppenheimer Clothing, sewing button holes by hand. In 1960, she and her family moved to San Pedro, California, where she spent the rest of her life. Rosa loved to cook, bake and entertain guests at her home. She enjoyed spending time at her second home in Palm Springs and traveling to Italy to visit family and friends. Rosa was a member of the San Giuseppe Society at Mary Star of the Sea Church for over 40 years. She is survived by her daughter Mary (Gaetano) Cigliano, granddaughters Pina (Gavin) McCann and Stephanie (Steve) Robles, and five great-granddaughters: Christina and Shannon McCann, and Daniela, Katrina, and Eliana Robles. She is also survived by her sister Bettina Furio, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary Star of the Sea High School. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday May 17th at McNerney's Mortuary with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday May 18th at 10:30 am at Mary Star of the Sea Church. Entombment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
