Our lives were forever changed on the morning of Wednesday, December 22, 2010, when we lost our beloved family patriarch - beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, James B. Reid. Known as Jimmy to his family and friends, he is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, to whom he was devoted for 65 years; children, Pamela (Bill) Stecker, Denise (Scott) Johnson; grandchildren, Joshua (Andrea), Justin (Megan), Jason, Jared Stecker, Ryan Robb and James Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ryann Stecker; sisters, Betty Redding, Evelyn Pope, Ethel Skelton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born at Fort McKinley in the Philippines to a Scotch-Irish father and Filipino mother, Jimmy left the islands as a teenager and traveled around the world as a Merchant Seaman, learning the ways of the kitchen as a galley cook. After WWII, he settled in San Pedro where he met his gorgeous, soon-to-be wife, Gloria, whom he was married to for 65 years. Jimmy's love for Gloria was unparalleled and after he retired in 1993, they were rarely seen without one another. Known as "Dad" to his grandchildren, Jimmy was incredibly devoted and generous and played a very active role in the lives of his family. He always made sure everyone was taken care of and touched the lives of all he came in contact with. Jimmy always had a story to tell and loved sharing them with family and friends. Along with his undying love for his family, Jimmy's lasting legacy is through his love of cooking. His famous recipes for lumpia, pancit and fried rice are family staples. Also, his curiosity with technology and love of gadgets kept him young at heart. A private visitation will be held Wednesday, December 29 at McNerney's Mortuary in San Pedro. Please call the family for details. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30 at 1 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park Chapel.
